Meet Artist Celena Polena

Artist Statement:

We all have a story and mine has many lively twists and turns. I've earned many titles: architectural designer and illustrator, yoga therapist, Business ESL teacher, professional picture framer, fast food cashier, bank teller, rock wall builder, marketing director, textbook author, traveler, waterbed salesperson, employment counselor, drawing tutor, Master Gardener, mom, wife...

However, the one prevailing title I've given myself is Artist. I've always studied art history and have always made art.

Currently, oil and watercolor are my preferred medias. Although may of my works are inspired by flowers, the content isn't as important to me as the interaction of color and an interesting composition.

Portraiture is an excruciating joy, but is difficult to make universally interesting. Animals as a subject intrigue me, but again, I feel a need to tell a story with the imagery. I like painting landscapes, but only if I have a connection to the place and can express that feeling successfully. I honestly don't know what I will paint tomorrow, but I guarantee I will do my best to express SOMETHING positive for this worry-weary world.

In showing and selling my work, I hope that I can share the part of myself that enjoys life and can make someone smile.
