Amena Kay Thornton
Amena is fascinated with the whimsical, dancing lines or brush strokes in all types of art.
And this "magical quality" has shaped her work. She often blurs the line between contemporary, digital art and traditional media.
In fact, she says, "Sometimes I even marry the two to make a final piece of artwork."
But her fans will note that her signature style is best expressed in her "digital watercolors."
Most often the colors she chooses are bright; however, she likes to contrast these choices with a few muted colors in each piece.
She explains, "I believe the contrast helps to create an interplay that provides a thought-provoking story line. I also like to use symbols in my work. These are often from folklore and mythology."
Her interests and muses include a variety of musicians of various genres, the art masters and illustrators she remembers from childhood.
In addition, she loves to travel and notes that "Traveling with my three kids and husband has been a big part of my art journey. We have been to cities, mountains, beaches and countries together. I even homeschool them along the way. It has been a awesome journey so far. And I can't wait to see what we do next since most of the time we don't plan a bunch of touristy stuff and just go where our feet take us."
Amena Kay is the author and illustrator of the coloring books Musical Dragons, Zen Legends, Dragon Food, and French Flower Collection.
