Meet Artist Laura O'Leary
My Artist Statement:
The convergence of natural and abstract is my artistic focus.
I strive to create brilliant art works while examining nature and light. I utilize ambient light, and sometimes use accent light, to craft images to match my artistic visions. I pursue the natural subject in such a way that I create an abstract portrayal of itself or capture native subjects that others may have missed. I enjoy exploring with light in and of itself; light as it enhances an object, light as it is naturally filtered through an entity, etc.
I experiment bending light to create works of art where light is the main subject using the camera as a tool to ‘paint’ or ‘draw’ with light. I hope to evoke intrigue and wonder for the viewer especially when observing my abstract artworks. Often, I ask viewers to guess what they identify from my abstract works to observe and to enjoy their perceptions of our world. My intent for my nature works is to bring a sense of relaxation and peacefulness to the viewer. I continuously challenge myself to both photograph subject matter in new ways and present the artwork with fresh perspectives.
