May Features Penny Parrish and Medina Roberts

A reflective focus on some personal themes ties these two very different displays together. Photographer Penny Parrish presents a

unique photo exhibit, entitled “ARCHitecture” of beautiful arches and architecture that she captured on camera during her recent trip to France. With an eye for detail, Penny focuses on some famous landmarks like the Arc de Triomphe, and Pont du Gard, (still standing after 2000 years), as well as some more obscure arches found inside remote cathedrals and shops. Penny's photography often tells a story and this time it relates the timeless beauty that history tells us about the growth of European civilization. These old arches have withstood the test of time and speak to us today of culture still preserved through the ages.

Also on display is a art created by Medina Roberts that tells about her struggle to establish a life for herself in the U. S. after emigrating here from Yugoslavia (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Medina's art depicts her joy, her pain and her hope for a brighter future. Her explosive, bold style is characteristic of expressive art that comes from inside and often solicits a reaction from the viewer. See this amazing show along with new works created by member artists that in include glass works, beaded and glass jewelry, and paintings in all media. Meet the artists at the First Friday reception on May 5 from 6-9 PM at Brush Strokes Gallery located at 824 Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg.
