Penny A. Parrish's "Idyllic Italy"

Penny A Parrish has long been admired for the artistry of her photography and her appreciative eye--and heart--for unacknowledged beauty that surrounds us, all of which is on full display in her April exhibit at Brush Strokes Gallery, "Idyllic Italy."

While others might peer out to capture a broad vista in the distance with their camera, Penny's lens may focus on the delicate beauty of the petals of a Saffron Crocus at her feet. While some might race up the steps to catch a view from above, Penny stops to look down and celebrate the mesmerizing design of the spiral staircase she is mounting. In addition, she has a talent for capturing a scene that might conjure up a unique storyline for each person who views it--such as a series of brightly colored cushions scattered up grey-stoned steps.

"Idyllic Italy" also conveys the uplifting spirit of a very special and sentimental venture--perhaps the

grandest journey that she has taken with a group of six friends of 25 years who reunite periodically. The cohort of camaraderie, now all retired, first bonded when Penny joined the Minneapolis Police Department in 1994. "I found some of the most witty, intelligent and fascinating friends in the MPD," Penny reminisced. "Throughout the years, we have celebrated births, comforted each other in times of sorrow, and taken short trips together whenever we could. Though one member has passed away, she will always be with us in spirit. And we will always be known as The Six-Pack!"

Penny's "Idyllic Italy" exhibit will be displayed from April 1 through April 28, and visitors will have an opportunity to meet and chat with her at the exhibit’s opening reception on “First Friday,” April 5, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
